Meet The Team
Keith Dahlby
Keith is the Software Architect in NewBoCode, our software team that builds prototypes and provides technical and product guidance for our startups. He’s the co-founder and CTO of HuBoard, a 2016 Techstars Cloud San Antonio company, and is a Microsoft MVP for his 7th year. He worked for 6 years at J&P Cycles, one of the region’s largest E-Commerce companies, where he architected and built much of their infrastructure.
He’s well known in Eastern Iowa for his technical expertise, and regularly presents at local and regional technical meetups. In fact, he’s sought out world-wide as a speaker on modern software development practices, including source control and code topics such as Git and C#. He also contributes and manages multiple open source projects, including posh-git and upforgrabs.net, a site dedicated to making it easy for developers to get involved and contribute to the open source community.
Keith also mentored startups at Iowa Startup Accelerator in 2014 and 2015, before joining the organization in 2016. At NewBoCo, Keith has worked on several projects for portfolio companies, and is currently working on an EdTech product that he has fully integrated into one of the largest education learning management software platforms in the world, for a large local school district.
Jess Faber
Jess and Keith have been “partners in code” for 8 years now. Their skill sets are perfectly complementary, with Keith focusing on server side code and architecture while Jess is a master of the client side. As the User Experience Designer and Front End Developer at NewBoCo, she spends most of her time working with layout/design, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. She’s also been sharing her skills with the greater development community by speaking at conferences and code camps in the Midwest about best practices while working in the intersection of code and design.
Previously, she also worked at J&P Cycles for 8 years. While there she was the UI lead for the responsive redesign of sister company Motorcycle Superstore, one of the first major E-commerce sites to go fully responsive. She later did a similar project for J&P Cycles, resulting in an enormous boost in mobile traffic, improved site performance, and overall sales. Also in her role she focused on many of the things local businesses and startups are dealing with today, including A/B testing, conversion rate optimization, driving new sales, and optimizing the front end of the platform for optimal page speed.
Jess joined the NewBoCo team in 2016, and since then has been working on product development using a variety of frameworks, including React.js.
John Foster
John Foster is an Illustrator/Graphic Designer with 25+ years in the field. From logos for Ma-and-Pa shops to branding of major universities, he has a wide range of experience. Having graduated from Mount Mercy College he has become proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, as well as maintained his drawing/illustrating skills over the years. He is eager to find visual solutions to problems for clients and colleagues.
Robbie Nesmith
Robbie started his journey at NewBoCo when he returned to his hometown after spending two years at Amazon Web Services. Coming to the profession of software development from an enjoyment of recreational programming, he has worked on a variety of types of projects and programming languages both at work and away. He enjoys learning how to utilize new technologies to improve the develolper experience and make shipping reliable code easier.
Being a tinkerer, he is often looking for ways to use code to tie together existing pieces of software and hardware. This desire to know how things work does wonders when faced with a new unfamiliar code project. With over ten years of experience 3D modelling with Blender and other CAD software, he uses the Vault Labs fabrication tools to create custom parts both original and to replace broken bits of out-of-warranty technology.
Craig Barkley
Craig is a versatile full-stack software developer who embarked on his coding journey in 2003 while pursuing his MIS degree at SIU. During this time, he adeptly utilized the LAMP stack, asp.net, and Visual Basic. His early foray into the digital realm continued as a digital editor, where he honed his skills with various Adobe products, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Macromedia’s Dreamweaver. Throughout his career, Craig has collaborated with numerous small businesses, guiding them in adopting new technologies to gain a competitive edge in their respective markets.
Not limited to software development, Craig also boasts experience in installing Ubiquity wifi Internet hardware devices and services. His tenure at an IaaS company involved managing network issues, executing new installs as well as resolving customer connectivity issues. Taking his commitment to professional growth further, Craig joined NewBoCo as a software developer apprentice. Simultaneously, he completed the Web Technologies and Software Development associates in applied science from Kirkwood Community College, including the DeltaV bootcamp. With a wealth of knowledge gained from creating and managing various software systems, Craig finds fulfillment in sharing his expertise with emerging software developers. For several years, he has been an instructor for the Code Fellows curriculum at Iowa’s premier code boot camp.
