About the Problem
Our team at NewBoCo Studios was excited to have the opportunity to work with the nursing staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC). At the start of this project, we learned that their existing technology used to collect Hospital Acquired Pressure Injuries (HAPI) survey data in real-time wasn't meeting their usability and security needs. This led us to collaborate with team of nurses to gain insight into the practical application of the technology, as well as the present and potential constraints. This collaboration helped us as we moved forward in mapping out the project and backlog in a way that prioritized the nursing staff's most immediate and high-impact needs.
About the Solution
Our backlog was at the ready, responsive to each successive iteration. First up was security (safety first). We plugged ourselves into the existing backend, built in Visual Basic, and made critical refactors and additions that significantly enhanced backend security. Our collective goal was to ensure that sensitive patient data collected would be kept safe.
Next up was the big kahuna- a new, responsive frontend that would integrate seamlessly with the existing backend. And more importantly, a frontend that would be intuitive and user-friendly. By putting our team's extensive background in React to work as well as consistent and transparent communication during the development process, our team delivered UIHC and their nursing staff with a high-quality product that was not only fully functional, but also tailored to their needs.
